# New-Athens-Constitutional-Record
**Free Nation of New Athens**

This repository contains all ratified amendments and formal additions to the Constitution of the Free Nation of New Athens. It serves as the authoritative version-controlled record of constitutional changes, organized chronologically and by subject where applicable.

## Purpose

The purpose of this repository is to:

- Preserve a clear and transparent history of constitutional amendments and additions  
- Provide a structured and scalable way to manage constitutional changes over time  
- Ensure public access to all updates to the supreme law of the nation  
- Support internal version control and collaborative drafting  

## Relationship to the Constitution

The Constitution of New Athens defines the foundational structure of government, guarantees fundamental rights, and establishes the supreme law of the land.

This repository tracks all formal changes to that text. These changes may take the form of:

- **Amendments** - modifications to existing constitutional articles or sections  
- **Additions** - new articles or sections added to expand the Constitution  

Each entry in this repository reflects a change that has completed the amendment process as outlined in the Constitution, including approval by Parliament and ratification by the Reigning Monarch.

## Structure

Amendments are organized in the following directory structure:

Where:
- `YYYY` is the Gregorian year the amendment or addition was ratified  
- `XX` is a sequential number for that year (e.g., 01, 02, etc.)  

Each file contains a single constitutional amendment or addition and includes the following metadata:

## Authority and Amendment Process

Constitutional amendments may only be enacted through the process established by the Constitution. This typically includes:

1. Approval by a simple majority vote of participating citizens in Parliament 
2. Ratification by the Reigning Monarch  
3. Publication in this repository as the final authoritative record  

Only amendments that have completed this process are added to the repository.

## Usage

- To read amendments: Browse by year and open the relevant Markdown file  
- To trace legal history: Use the Git commit history to view previous versions and timelines  
- To propose an amendment: Authorized officials may submit draft proposals in accordance with constitutional procedure  

## Contributing

This repository is managed by the Speaker of the People. Only authorized personnel may directly modify the contents. Suggested changes or corrections may be submitted via pull request and will be reviewed through the appropriate legislative process.
